How to Dress Warmly for Winter in New Brunswick

For many newcomers, the first Canadian winter can be surprising. In our region, every winter is different - sometimes mild, sometimes extremely cold.

The most important rule is layering.

Wearing several thin layers keeps you warm, dry, and comfortable.

For children (especially at school!)

Kids go outside at least twice a day, even in winter, so proper clothing is essential:

Warm, waterproof snow pants

Waterproof mittens (warmer than gloves)

Winter boots

Scarf, hat, neck warmer

Warm winter jacket

Extra layers like thermal underwear

For adults

Use layers: warm shirt + sweater + winter jacket.

A thin insulated jacket (like Uniqlo) under your coat adds great warmth.

Warm pants or insulated leggings.

Quality winter boots.

Mittens keep hands warmer than gloves.

A good winter hat is essential.

Why does it matter?

Cold weather can lead to:

Frostbite

Hypothermia

Ear, finger, and toe pain

Lower back or kidney pain

Circulation problems

Friendly reminder

There is no bad cold weather - only bad clothing choices.

When dressed properly, even –30°C can be manageable.

AMINA wishes everyone a warm, safe, and cozy winter season!
