Campfire Safety in New Brunswick

Updated: Aug 21, 2025

Planning a cozy campfire with family or friends?  In New Brunswick, there are strict rules to keep everyone - and our forests - safe.

Always check the fire hazard rating at https://www.gnb.ca/.../emergency.../fire-watch.html It updates daily at 2 PM.

Even cool weather can be risky if it’s windy.

Fires must be built in safe, contained areas (like a fire pit) and never left unattended.

Keep water or sand nearby in case things get out of control.

And most importantly: no fires when the rating is RED (burn ban)!

Igniting a fire when it’s not allowed can lead to serious fines - or worse, a forest fire.

When camping, follow park rules. At home, check with your local municipality.
