Back-to-school season is here in Saint-Quentin and Kedgwick! That means more children on sidewalks, school buses on the roads, and heavier traffic near schools.
Here are some key rules to keep everyone safe:
Stop for school buses: when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is out, you must stop in both directions.
Use and respect crosswalks: children often cross quickly - stay alert.
Slow down in school zones: speed limits are reduced near schools - obey them.
No phones while driving: stay focused on the road.
Children on bikes must wear helmets and cross only at safe places.
Tips for parents:
Plan a safe route for your children: find crosswalks, wide sidewalks, and less busy streets.
Dress children in bright or reflective clothing in the morning and evening, especially when it’s dark.
Remind kids to look left, right, and left again before crossing, even at crosswalks.
Encourage children to never run into the street or between cars.
If possible, accompany younger children the first day or first few weeks until they are comfortable with the route.
A small act of caution can save a life. Let’s stay vigilant and keep our children safe!
